Jun 25, 2023

One person is dead, one is injured, and two people are in custody from two shootings that occurred in Duluth on Wednesday afternoon. Police have since provided some details on the suspects and the charges they face.

At approximately 12:30pm, Duluth Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 2500 block of West 2nd Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Upon arrival, two victims were located.

One victim, an 18-year-old male, sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle. Police said Thursday that they are expected to survive their injuries. The other victim, a 19-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

At approximately 2:00pm, Duluth Police Officers responded to the call of shots fired on the 3900 block of West 4th Street. DPD believes the two incidents are related, but isolated among parties known to each other stemming from a prior argument.

The second shooting had no injuries reported, but multiple homes were shot in what neighbors describe as a quiet neighborhood.

“I was taking a break, sitting in the living room,” said Karon Zetina. “All of a sudden, boom, boom, boom. All these shots went off and at first I was kind of startled and I jumped up, went to look outside, and my whole glass screen door fell in. When I opened the inside door and I looked inside the door, there’s a bullet hole through it. And then the door that goes into the house, which is like, here’s the front door, here’s the door that goes in the house. There’s another bullet hole in there.”

After the shooting incidents, police located and arrested two suspects. A 21-year-old is facing charges of 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Homicide. A 25-year-old suspect is facing 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Homicide, and a Department of Corrections Violation of Supervised Release charges.

Police are following leads and say they are actively investigating the incident. Anyone with photos or videos of the shootings are asked to share them with police here, or submit a tip by texting keyword ‘DPDTIP’ and your tip to 847411.
